Motorists are at risk of not being fully covered if they choose a new breed of “essentials” insurance policies that can actually be more expensive than so-called premium cover.
The prices quoted for car insurance policies went up 40 per cent in the year to May and 16 per cent in the first three months of the year. The average policy now costs £478, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI) — and finding a cheap deal is becoming more and more difficult.
